Arab Baptist Theological Seminary

Equipping Faithful Leaders for Effective Service

Founded in 1960 in the hills overlooking Beirut, the Arab Baptist Theological Seminary (ABTS) has been equipping servant-leaders for the ministry challenges arising in the Middle East and North Africa. Since then, hundreds of ABTS graduates have been launched into ministry serving the Arab Church. Their ministries include pastoring churches, teaching the Word of God at schools and colleges, leading home groups and Bible studies, training other leaders, serving refugees, leading worship, preaching, planting churches, starting Bible schools, leading youth meetings, serving in women and children ministries, and sharing the Gospel through different media outlets.

A Growing Church

The Church in the Arab world is witnessing to the Gospel in a very challenging context. The Arab world is facing economic difficulties, a lack of opportunities for a significant part of the young population, diminishing public freedoms, and violence and armed conflict. Furthermore, the Arab Church, in most countries, is facing various forms and levels of persecution.

At the same time, Arab men and women are coming to faith in the Middle East and North Africa in numbers unseen in previous years. God’s Spirit is working, and churches are called to quench the thirst of millions with a relationship with the Father through Jesus.

In Need of Training

From these developments arises the perpetual need for leaders who have learned to engage with the ever-changing tides of today’s world – to engage rather than to fear. The Kingdom of God is about transformation and reconciliation, and this is at the heart of our theological education and leadership formation.

When it might seem simple to import theological and ministry training from the vast resources available in the West, ABTS has worked hard to develop a holistic curriculum that is both biblically faithful and contextually relevant as we fulfill our mission to serve the Church in the Arab world.
